Liam Thierens has been a fixture at the pointy end of our local ultra scene for years — victories at the Blackall 50 and Blackall 100, plus a standout performance at Ultra-Trail Kosciuszko. And now he's taken that form onto the world stage, qualifying for the big one: the full UTMB in Chamonix. 100-odd miles, over 10,000 metres of climbing, through France, Italy and Switzerland — widely regarded as the toughest, most prestigious race in the sport.
Liam's actually recording this with us from Chamonix itself, having spent time out on the course training and getting a feel for the terrain before race day.
